Sangha Superstar Sydney Moreno

Interview with Sydney Moreno, the 4th Sangha Superstar of the Spring 2021 Semester

  1. When did you pledge dbt and what was your experience like? I pledged in Fall 2020 during a pretty unconventional time, but I honestly wouldn’t trade for any other. Being a pandemic pledge was pretty cool, I didn’t have much of an expectation, which made every moment a great and new experience. I’m happy I joined when I did because I met some amazing people that made my DBT pledging experience that much better and that convinced me that much more that I had made the right choice in taking a chance on DBT.

  2. How has dbt impacted your college experience/life? DBT has been my community when I needed a community. This experience has taught me so much about life in a short period of time and I know life would be a whole heck of a lot different if I hadn’t found DBT people. There’s just nothing that compares to the type of connections and support you feel here.

  3. How do you embody the heart of dbt in your daily life? Everyday I just try to live a life with a purpose to better something. I can’t fix yesterday or foresee tomorrow so if I can in any way make a change in my life or anothers life today at any point then I have done my job on this earth.

  4. What Buddhist teaching is your favorite and why? Above all Impermanence, the message is so clear. Live today, live tomorrow, live for as long as you can despite all the things that could happen. Good. Bad. We all go through it and we all get through it. The bad times don’t last so count on that but just the same the good times don’t last so savior, enjoy, and get on with living.

  5. What does mindfulness mean to you? Mindfulness to me means to be present with every moment. To feel, acknowledge, and absorb your experience instead of trying to rush through it. Mindfulness is when nothing is more important than what is happening in the now.

  6. What is your favorite Dbt memory? By far my fondest DBT memory was finding my Big. The process of finding my Big was so sweet and so fun! I didn’t have a single dry conversation with any of the people I interviewed. I found some awesome and diverse personalities while interviewing and it made joining DBT that much better, knowing that this is the place where you meet some of the best people in your life.
