Bid Night Reflections Fall 2020

“My experience with bid night was very positive. I was very excited to get the opportunity to join Delta Beta Tau and was looking forward to seeing my fellow pledges. During bid night I was able to understand more about DBT and learn what was required or expected of me throughout the semester. After the meeting I was excited for what was to come this semester and was looking forward to all of the Sunday socials, meditations, and retreats. One thing I took away from bid night was that whatever I take out of this experience I must share with others. Whatever I positively experience or take out of DBT, I should share positively with my community so they also get something out of it too because we should share all the good things in our lives with others.” - Claudia Beaven

“Although Bid Night was hosted on Zoom, it was certainly a night I’ll never forget. I could sense the good energy flowing through our screens as we all came together and meditated at the start of our meeting. I could feel that everyone was so excited to begin our journey together in joining such a wonderful group of likeminded and kind individuals. I exited the Zoom meeting with a great sense of fulfillment and an excitement to experience what was in store for me when I returned to the next meeting. Thank you DBT, I can’t wait to be a part of the family!”  - Mads Estay

“I thought that bid night was a really great experience overall! Starting off the meeting with a meditation really helped me decompress from my day and get focused for the meeting. Getting to learn about the code of ethics, read the manual, and see the video of active members got me really excited to learn more about Buddhism, engage in discussions, meditate, and improve my spiritual life this semester!! Already so thankful for this organization and can’t wait for more events!”  - Stancie Holder

“Bid night helped me get a better sense of how this semester is going to be and the ethics of DBT. Coming into it I felt a bit anxious just because I wasn’t sure how the meetings were going to be organized or what was going to be talked about, but when it was over I felt like this was the perfect group for me to be a part of! I thought it was more personal that everyone had their cameras on so I appreciated that as well! I think overall it was a fun experience and it made me really excited for the rest of this semester.”  - Kassidy Karlsson

“Bid night left me feeling excited for what’s to come this semester. I felt so welcomed and am eager to continue and grow throughout this process.” -Kylie (Ky) Cacao

"To whomever took the time and effort to read this, I am Sabrina Moreno, a freshman here at State and thank you for taking the time to read my experience about being a pledge for Delta Beta Tau. My first moments in this fraternity we’re nothing short of just excitement, I met such vibrant people, had a very positive atmosphere (which sounds weird on zoom but they all really bring that positive and inviting presence with them). After attending mediation I felt just very relaxed and calm and then being able to chat with the active members was very enjoyable and I felt a part of a good community. From the moment I logged into the call I knew that these bright smiling faces would leave an everlasting impression on me; looking forward to the new experiences and enlightening conversations I’ll have with my new Delta Beta Tau family." - Sabrina Morena

“My bid night experience was exciting, I didn’t know what to expect being that this was my first time joining a fraternity. The environment was so inviting and when they pulled up the video of all the actives welcoming us that’s when I realized I had made the right choice in applying for DBT. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this fraternity. I’m looking forward to experiencing this new journey, to making great friends, and to have a lot of fun! :)” - Sydney Moreno

“Going into bid night I had no idea what to expect as this is my first time getting involved in any organization on campus. I am so glad I made the jump and decided to pledge because I had an amazing experience. All of the leadership and active members are so passionate about this fraternity and welcoming to the new pledges. I can’t wait to continue with the pledgeship and eventually join the DBT family.”  - Lauren Bautista

“Going into bid night for DBT I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect. All I had known about DBT so far was from the meditations. Once we started going, I realized I had made the right choice by joining DBT. Each of its members are completely engaged, friendly, and supportive. As we went through the different forms regarding DBT, I also realized how beneficial this group of people would be for me personally. I am excited to learn more about myself in the process, and have a better impact on my community.”  -Audrey Goins

“My experience with bid night stirred a couple of my emotions. I was a little anxious meeting everyone yet excited for what’s to come. I enjoyed meditating at the beginning of the meeting because it helped me loosen up a bit.  I loved the welcome video the actives put together, I thought it was very wholesome and it pretty much justified why I wanted to join!” - Reina Corpus

“You know when something just feels right? Well that’s how I felt during my bid night experience with DBT. Going into it I felt nervous, but meditating with everyone and sharing the same space, even online, felt safe and fun. After bid night I knew it was a community I wanted to contribute to and grow with.”  -Nirel Manalili

“My favorite thing that the current coronavirus pandemic has brought me, or rather helped me let go of, is my expectations. I wasn’t sure what this semester pledging DBT would be like over zoom ,but regardless, I couldn’t have been more excited. I let go of my expectations going into it from the moment I took my first breath on bid day. Bid day was the perfect way to wind down for the crazy Sunday I had. It got me so excited to be a part of something that brings so much peace and openness. So ready for this next semester w y’all!”  -Emma Valdivia

“I personally really liked bid night. It’s always so exciting to come into an unknown environment and be shocked. This is actually my second time pledging, as the first time I had family and personal issues in the way. If I were to compare the two I would say that I miss the group environment and that we all were connected to each other from the beginning. For example, we wrote something inspiring and then we each got a piece of paper that someone had written. It’s such a tough challenge to make corona personable, but I’m so proud that you all are doing so well coping with coronavirus and I’m so excited to see what’s in store this semester” -Amy Cordell

“I wasn’t sure how bid night would unfold because of everything switching virtual during this time, but I ended up having a great time. Everyone made it feel like a safe place to speak our minds and I’m so excited to get to know everyone better! :)”  -Janelle Takahashi

“At first I was pretty nervous about bidding. I joined last minute and I didn’t even know if  I was gonna join until they said the deadline was that night. When I got to the meeting we started with meditation and it was my first time meditating with my camera on. It felt weird that people were looking at me but I soon realized everyone was doing the exact same thing as me and they all probably felt the same way. It was really nice to be able to join everyone in meditation. Afterwards we went over the expectations and guide to DBT. I really loved the way everything was explained and all the Buddhist ideas. It’s something I’ve thought about for a long time but I’ve never been part of a formal group that follows them. I’m really excited now and I find myself getting more and more comfortable every meeting. I think this will be really good for me and I’m excited to see what’s to come!” - Jeff Livers
